So, after my camera plus most other electrical goods I own inexplicably developing faults all at the same time, the said camera has now disappeared on its way to the service centre! Good thing I paid the insurance... If it's lost for good I'll just have to get something smaller and better. :o)

No more pics :(
Well, tis the season of office parties and more or less continuous drunkeness but sadly my so far excellent powershot S70 has chosen this moment to die. It's on it's way back to the service centre now. I'm beginning to suspect someone's been testing an EMP device in the vicinity of my house. That's my camera, 4 remote controls, my boiler and by car all developing faults in the last few days (ok, the car might be a red herring).
Office party last night went pretty well, I was horribly drunk but don't *think* I did anything too appalling. There's another one tomorrow though so there's still time :o)
Kitchen is pretty much finished but of course - no pics...

Owww....
My poor soft office worker's hands!
Too much time at the keyboard these days. Back when I was labouring I had proper leathery man's hands but these days they're just not up to 3 solid days manual work. Tshh!
Well, I've fitted no new kitchen stuff yet, ripping out and replacing old floor took far longer than I expected, still, the worst of it's done now - see pics here
What else - Umm, run the 10k last weeken, missed my PB by 2 seconds! ie ran it one second slower than my best - Ho hum, need to be a bit more pushy on the start line I think, spent the whole time overtaking.

The calm before the storm...

Goodbye crappy old 70's kitchen! Yes, it has just hours to live now. First thing tomorrow it's all being ripped out, down to and including the floor which has been wobbly every since the washing machine went through it's incontinent phase some months ago. It's not been a bad old kitchen really...what am I saying, it's always been crap - I can't wait to see the back of it! New kitchen stuff not being delivered until next week so I guess I'll be living on cold beans for a few days.
Nah - Actually I'm setting up a temporary kitchen in the lounge. It'll be alright. :o)
Off to bed soon but got to wait until my bread's ready to come out of the oven - Last chance to bake for a bit.

Early Literary Promise - Part 2
Beware falling Bricks! => Diversion
Once when I was going down a road on my bicycle I saw a sign saying Beware falling bricks! And an arrow with Some writing underneath it saying diversion. anywayI decided the diversion was to long So I went through. at the same time some bricks decided to drop and met my back wheel with a crash. my bicycle would'nt go again. So I picked up the back of my bicycle and held the handle bars and wheeled it home.
7/10
7? for that?!? that's a nine and a half at least! Bloody philistines....

Not a bad days work!
Wow, I'm feeling smug!
Ok, so I completely failed to get out for a ride this morning - I was tired ok? But I've made up for it by COMPLETELY clearing my cellar! Now this may not sound that impressive to the casual passerby, but understand that I bought this house more than 12 years ago and it has been rented out to 3 different household along the way. And at no time has it received more than a light dusting. Believe me if hercules was alive today his fifth labour would have been to clear my cellar.
Anyway it is now sorted and swept and well...a positive asset where I can store bicycles, tools, tins of paint etc and STOP THEM cluttering up the house. Fan'kin'tastic!
So, after that I went for a run. Did my usual beach circuit which at my best last year I managed in about 28 minutes. Was vaguely hoping to try and get it under 30 this time but not expecting too much. Checked my HRM at the end and I'd only gone and done it in 26:23! Looking good for the 10K this year - maybe I'll finally get that elusive sub 40 minute time. :o)

Early literary promise!
I've decide to publish some of my earliest work. Starting with this opus from 1976 entitled:
A chapter of accidents
one day a man namd Mr henry potter was cooking hiS Supper when it began to rain and the washing was getting wet. he ran out and got the washing in But as ran in he Triped over Shoelace and droped the washing in a puddle. he picked it up again and ran inside and washed it and left it on the draning board. When he had finished his supper was burnt. So he went of to the shops to buy Something for his supper he bout some sasages and went of home but the sausages were hanging out of the Suitcase and Some dogS ran after him and tried to get sausages he pushed sausage in his suitcase and ran home and cooked them and et them and went to bed
I've tried to maintain as much of the original feel as possible but naturally some of the sheer visceral energy of the prose is lost in the transfer from the original HB on paper. Superficially it appears to be a simple tale of one man and some sausages but clearly there are far more universal themes involved here. Mr henry potter (Note, short sighted teacher had 'corrected' this name by capitalizing it when clearly the lowercase is used to underline the everyman nature of the protagonist) ...Anyway hp is a man with simple needs. He needs sustenance he needs clean dry clothing and he needs somewhere safe to lay his head. Basically he just want to enjoy a nice hot sausage in comfort and get a good nights kip. But everywhere he is thwarted! First by the the loathsome 'Shoelace' - Possibly an old and feared enemy, possibly merely a malicious interloper - we are left to wonder for ourselves. Then the weather, the weather of course representing any number of the inexorable challenges that face us all daily. Then the dogss. Damn them THE DOGS, always slathering at your ankles, just waiting for the chance to sink their fangs in and
Oh look, time for bed. Night all!

Slap Face!
...that's what my son's got apparently. Never heard of it myself but a quick google shows it's pretty well known. He's fine apart from a red rash. I've got a killer stiff neck though, In fact I've been off work for two days. And achy joints are one of the symptoms found in adults exposed to it. Could just be caused by painting ceilings though I guess...

Return of the Brighton Tuesday Nightride
Oh yeah! After a summer of faffing and excuses we finally managed to get out for a proper night ride. Met John by the river and made our circuitous way over to the top of dog shit woods to meet the others. Jo then led us on a merry thrash around some of our old favourites and a couple of bits I'd completely forgotten about before arriving at the Stanley Arms in time for a well earned pint or three.
Top stuff and let's not leave it so long next time eh?

Been a bit quiet lately
Well, it's like this....
about a month ago I decided to give that Paul McKenna fella a go. I've been feeling a bit 'flat' lately. Not exactly depressed but unmotivated and pesimistic so thought I could do with some kind of pick me up. Got that 'Change your life in 7 days' book and a couple of days in and the results were fantastic. It seemed to act as a wake up call and next thing I'd stopped arsing about on the internet when I should be working and before you know it my jobs suddenly going well again. Next up I made a start on properly sorting out my house, taking stuff to the dump, decorating, tidying up etc. It's been great, I've got more done in the last few weeks than I've managed in years. Only slight problem I've had is controlling the amount of enthusiam. It's good to get stuff done but not clever to be wide awake at 4 in the morning pondering how best to reorganise the kitchen cupboards! Still, think I'm getting it under control a bit now.
The cycling has suffered while this has been going on but never mind I'll get back to it when I'm ready.
Tonight in fact. :o)

Drinking Wine and rebuilding my rear wheel - Broke a couple of spokes at the SingleSpeed champs at Machynleth last weekend. Top race, well organised, great course and lots of stupid drunken arseing about. Pics here:
